Dental Crowns

A crown is a full coverage, cosmetic restoration utilized to strengthen a tooth or improve its shape.  Crowns can be made of porcelain, metal (gold), or a combination of the two.  Porcelain crowns are generally the material of choice due to their superior esthetics and strength.​

Crowns are recommended to help restore teeth that are broken, worn, or otherwise damaged from decay.  While it is sometimes possible to rebuild teeth with fillings, crowns are indicated when there is insufficient tooth structure remaining for a filling.

To fit your tooth for a crown, the Doctor will prepare your tooth so the crown (which goes over the tooth like a hat) fits.  The Dentist will then take an impression of your tooth and send it to the lab.  Once there, an experienced technician will fabricate a custom crown to precisely fit your tooth.  The crown is then sent back to the Dentist where it is permanently cemented onto your tooth
